Tehaleh’s Landscape Design Concept

At Tehaleh you will find a high level of connectivity throughout the community, saving the natural topography and its edges, enhancing the preserved open space, and protecting the views of Mount Rainier.

The design approach is one of rustic refinement with an authenticity of character derived from elements of the place. With a simplicity and honesty of materials, Tehaleh creates an experiential sense of space, much like a natural reserve or a national park.

There is a feeling of forest living through the intentional, natural open-space system, encouraging exploration and a connection with nature.

Heightened experiences throughout the forest are possible with a network of greenways and parks, miles of trails, a warming hut and outdoor fireplaces. As the community grows, so will the parks and trails.

“Authentic materials are used including the native (and climbable) boulders at Boulder Dash and Sticks ‘n’ Stones parks, outcroppings, rough-hewn stone, raw and milled timber, aged steel and concrete, all reminiscent of the logging tradition,” said Scott Jones, Tehaleh’s Vice President and General Manager.

Plantings include the native palette of Douglas fir, hemlock, cedar, rhododendron, ferns and an array of meadow grasses and wildflowers, displaying sweeps of color all year.

“When we set out to plan and redesign Tehaleh, we were purposeful in what we wanted our residents to experience and see,” added Scott. “When you drive out there an enter the community you can see how it looks, feels and lives.”
